Donate Below to Pixie & Trixie’s dental & mammary tumor surgeries: $7,000!
Our adoption fee is $250 for adult dog and puppies and just $150 for seniors 10 years or over in age. This includes spaying/neutering, age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm testing, micro-chip, and other needs such as deworming and dental care.
Important RACE Policies:
1. RACE does not approve requests to adopt multiple puppies at one time to the same home.
2. All pets in an applicants home must be spayed/neutered to qualify for application review.
3. RACE does not approve applicants that do not have a permanent resident, i.e. own a home or maintain a lease or rental agreement with proof of the pet policy.
4. RACE reviews multiple applicants and chooses the best fit between the applicant and animal. RACE is NOT a first come, first serve rescue. We can not hold or guarantee the availability of an animal.
5. RACE is an all volunteer based rescue that receives many applications. Please understand that each animal often receives many qualified applicants and the volunteers can not contact each person.
6. Inquires will be answered only after an application has been submitted. Applications do not commit you to an animal, but does confirm you are serious about your inquiry
Once your application is approved, you can call to make an appointment to see the dog(s) you are interested in meeting/adopting. (This application does NOT commit you to any dog. It just begins the process.
We are always in need of volunteers and/or foster parents for our animals! It is especially helpful if you can foster a dog of any size or age. If you are able to assist in this capacity complete the form below.
RACE is an Emergency Placement Partner for the Humane Society of the United States. We have also been awarded the Best in Show Dog Rescue Award from dogbreedinfo.org.
If you'd prefer to print out an application, hand write the responses, then send that in, use this. If you'd rather type your responses, you can do that too. Fill in your responses, save a copy to your computer and e-mail it to racerescue@atmc.net or snail mail it to 503 Red Fox Court, Shallotte, NC 28470.

People often ask us why we charge an adoption fee.
The answer is simple. If we get a dog or cat that is perfectly healthy, we still must get the animal all vaccinations, spaying or neutering, heartworm testing, deworming, nail clipping, and grooming. The average cost of these services to RACE is $250. We do this all to ensure that those who adopt get a healthy pet.
This is assuming there are no health issues such as the high number of heartworm positive animals, surgeries, and infections. When this occurs, the price to care for each animal increases significantly.
We rely on the kindness of donations and work hard at our fundraisers to make up the difference. When we say we are non-profit, we mean it . We have no paid employees. Our wonderful volunteers and board members do all the work. This includes transports, fairs, fundraisers, adoption fairs, answering phones, doing paperwork, managing the website and Facebook page, bottle-feeding, vet coordination and tracking and vet visits.
Thank you for your understanding and support. We could not do this without you.
Please visit the Brunswick County Animal Shelter to see the wonderful transformation to the facility. Shelter visiting hours are Monday-Friday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. You can also visit their website here.
